Since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, Matthijs de Ligt has had a difficult time at FC Bayern.
A departure in the summer seemed likely - but now everything should be different.
Munich – He was supposed to be the new head of defense at FC Bayern, but was increasingly sidelined under Thomas Tuchel.
Most recently it was said that Matthijs de Ligt was dissatisfied with his role as only third choice in Munich's central defense and was possibly planning to leave after the current season.
However, the Dutchman's plans may have changed due to Tuchel's departure next summer.
De Ligt becomes a crowd favorite with his rescue operation
Who can remember?
Bayern's goal was empty after Yann Sommer wasted the ball after an unnecessary dribble in his own penalty area.
PSG player Vitinha came free to shoot from around eleven meters and was already starting to celebrate.
It would have been the opening goal for the Parisians in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern (first leg ended 0-0) last season.
But out of nowhere, de Ligt suddenly appeared and scratched the ball off the line at the very last second.
The Allianz Arena then turned into a madhouse, with Bayern fans cheering about de Ligt's spectacular save as if Bayern had just scored a goal themselves.
In the end, as is well known, Bayern won 2-0 and moved into the quarter-finals.
De Ligt has a difficult time under Tuchel
After this scene at the latest, the 24-year-old had played his way into the hearts of all FCB supporters.
De Ligt seemed to have a great future with the German record champions.
But then everything turned out differently.
A few weeks after the round of 16 triumph over Paris, Julian Nagelsmann was fired.
With the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, de Ligt's position at the club changed.

The ex-Juventus player suddenly saw significantly less playing time, which also had to do with his serious knee injury (torn medial ligament) and the signing of defensive lineman Minjae Kim.
However, as the current season progressed, Tuchel preferred the somewhat stronger duo Kim and Dayot Upamecano to build play from defense.

De Ligt's role under Tuchel as the third force in Bayern's defense probably led to the Dutchman thinking about saying goodbye.
The frustration over not enough playing time increased and leaving after the end of the season seemed a plausible scenario.
Now, however, de Ligt is said to have reconsidered his plans for the summer.
The reason is said to be Tuchel's departure from Bayern after the end of the current season at the latest.
This is what the two
BILD
reporters Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk report in their podcast “Bayern-Insider”.
Accordingly, de Ligt definitely wants to wait and see which coach will succeed Tuchel.
His contract with Munich runs until the summer of 2027 anyway. According to
Bild
reporter Falk, there is a good chance that the defender will stay in the Bavarian capital beyond the summer.
