With three newcomers in the 22-player line-up, the national team is going into the upcoming games of the Nations League. In addition to Leroy Sané, Antonio Rüdiger and Niklas Süle, who are back in the squad after long injury breaks, national coach Joachim Löw also nominated Robin Gosens, Florian Neuhaus and Oliver Baumann for the first time. On September 3rd against Spain in Stuttgart and on September 6th against Switzerland in Basel, the trio can hope for their DFB debut.

Left-back Gosens, who had already been invited to the international test matches against Spain and Italy that had been canceled due to the corona pandemic, was one of the top performers at Atalanta this season. The team from Bergamo surprisingly made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and took third place in Serie A. In 43 competitive games, the 26-year-old Gosens contributed ten goals and eight assists as a left winger in front of a back three.

Perspective hope Neuhaus, substitute solution Baumann

Neuhaus' nomination does not come as a surprise either. The 23-year-old had a regular place in the central midfield at Borussia Mönchengladbach last season and is considered dynamic with qualities in creative passing. At the U21 European Championship 2019, Neuhaus was part of the DFB team, which only lost to Spain in the final.

Baumann's nomination, on the other hand, has more to do with the general personnel situation in Löw's squad: Manuel Neuer is not part of the Champions League success of FC Bayern Munich, as are Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich and the Leipzig semi-finalists Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg Contingent. Marc-André ter Stegen is missing with a knee injury. This creates space for Baumann: The 30-year-old regular keeper of TSG Hoffenheim complements the squad as the third goalkeeper behind Bernd Leno from Arsenal FC and Kevin Trapp from Eintracht Frankfurt.
