Antonin Panenka, a 71-year-old former Czech footballer, tested positive for Covid-19 and is in intensive care at the hospital, the Bohemians club, of which he is honorary president, said on his Twitter account.

"While his condition was serious, Antonin Panenka was admitted today in intensive care at the hospital where he was connected to machines," said the club.

Born in 1948 in Prague, Antonin Panenka is a legend of the round ball.

He won the 1976 European Championship with Czechoslovakia by scoring in the final the last shot on goal with a bell shot to which he gave his name: the panenka.

Relatively spared in the spring, the Czech Republic is currently recording a sharp increase in the number of Covid-19 contaminations, with a record of 4,457 new cases for Tuesday.
