Sebastiano Nappo and Mohamad Awata both left SV Heimstetten to become professional footballers.

Now the two are back at the SVH.

Why didn't it work so far?

  • Sebastiano Nappo

    and

    Mohamad Awata

    both moved

    back

    to

    SV Heimstetten

    before the season

    .

  • Both had originally the target

    professional Fußballe

    r

    to be.

  • In the

    interview

    , the two

    midfielders

talk about your return, your past and your future.

Heimstetten

- Sebastiano Nappo sat in the pub of SV Heimstetten and should talk about his dreams.

Nappo was 22 years old.

In the Bayernliga, he scored 28 times in 36 games.

As a midfielder.

But when the interview was about his sporting future, he replied like a U19 talent from the youth academy: “My goal is to play as high as possible.” Striker colleague Orhan Akkurt had to step in: “Sebastiano has what it takes to be a professional.

If he doesn't get a chance, who will? ”Nappo got the chance.

He played in the reserve of FC Augsburg for two years.

He used Heimstetten as a stepping stone.

Just like striker Mohamad Awata.

The Syrian lived through the war and got a chance at TSV 1860 after his escape.

He always moved wherever he saw the opportunity to become a professional footballer.

He made this promise to himself and his father before fleeing.

Awata went to Jordan.

There were problems with the salary there.

He made the jump to Schweinfurt via Heimstetten.

There are professional conditions there.

But the striker could not prevail.

Awata and Nappo: Both left to become professionals.

Now you are back at SV Heimstetten and have to ask yourself the question: How long can a football player dream?

Nappo: "My goal was to find a club where I can continue to make a living from football"

Sebastiano, you are back from the professional youth of FC Augsburg.

Why is your trainer complaining about your lack of fitness?

Nappo: (laughs) He's not entirely wrong.

I haven't trained with any team since the Corona break.

I called Christoph Schmitt in the summer to see if I could train with him.

I wanted to be in top shape.

My goal was to find a club where I can continue to make a living from football.

That unfortunately did not work.

Then why are you storming for Heimstetten again?

Nappo: I waited two months for an offer.

I have long hoped.

But nothing came.

It's cool when you can get up every day and know that to get to work you have to drive to the football field.

There is no better feeling.

When it was clear that the time was over, it was of course difficult for me.

In retrospect, it's not a broken leg.

I've had two great years.

Awata: "In Schweinfurt I couldn't get past Adam Jabiri"

Mo, you wanted to make the leap into the 3rd division in Schweinfurt.

It wasn't enough for a regular place.

Why?

Awata: Every coach knows that I always give 100 percent.

If my training performance is not right, I can understand that I'm sitting on the bench.

But I'm tearing myself apart

In Schweinfurt I couldn't get past Adam Jabiri.

He is a legend.

It was incredibly difficult for me.

But I don't look back.

Just forward.

Sebastiano, why didn't you continue in Augsburg?

Nappo: It went really well in the first year.

I've played almost every game.

The second year started well too.

Then we had a bad phase.

The trainer has decided to switch to some positions.

Then it worked again.

But from that point on I was left out and didn't get a chance.

That's football.

Nappo: "In order to take the leap, you need an exceptional situation"

You knew professional trainer Manuel Baum from school.

Did you hope for more from this?

Nappo: He was my teacher.

Of course, it's good when a coach already knows you.

But to take the leap, you need an exceptional season.

I was allowed to train with the professionals three times.

The difference to the regional league is enormous.

The pace is brutally fast.

The pros already know in their heads what to do before they get the ball.

Awata: "The club then always chooses the player with the bigger name"

Mo, why are you in Heimstetten again?

Awata: I had two trial sessions.

But as a regional league player you don't get a chance if the club can bring in a striker who, at least on paper, comes from the 2nd Bundesliga.

The club then always chooses the player with the bigger name.
