Now it's official: The season of the Freising Regionalliga volleyball men is over.

The association reacts with relief.

Nevertheless, there is criticism of the association.

Freising

- The decision of the German Volleyball Association (DVV) was a bit long in coming - but it came as no surprise: The DVV ended the 2020/21 season for the 3rd leagues and the regional leagues because of the corona pandemic explained.

This affects the men's team of SC Freising, which plays in the Regionalliga Süd-Ost, but was not able to play a single game in this round anyway.

At the end of January, the Bavarian Volleyball Association (BVV) had already canceled the 2020/21 competition season for all leagues from the Bayernliga down to the district class.

Those responsible at BVV agreed that Corona would not allow a meaningful return to regular gaming operations.

SCF department head Dejan Jankovic welcomed the decision and already at that time firmly expected that the DVV would follow suit and make the same decisions for the 3rd national and regional leagues.

“This decision could have been made much earlier,” says Jankovic a little surprised.

A number of scenarios were controversially discussed in the Federal Gaming Committee

In a press release, national game warden Gerald Kessing admitted that the season in the third national and regional leagues would have been gladly continued after amateur sport had opened up.

"For this we have controversially discussed a number of scenarios in the Federal Gaming Committee," reports Kessing.

“However, it is already foreseeable at this point in time that regular gaming would no longer have been possible.

Some of the halls were converted into important vaccination centers. ”In addition, a shift backwards would have led to a collision with the beach season.

I am curious to see how many of our members will turn their backs on volleyball.

SCF department head Dejan Jankovic

SCF coach Falk Ullmann would have preferred a signal from the association: "We were always under pressure to have to play again immediately if Corona had allowed it." The association overlooked the fact that many athletes have a job and Family are currently more important and therefore one or the other player would have paused.

"That would have distorted competition." In this context, Ullmann accuses the association of a lack of transparency and a lack of communication: "You should have sent a corresponding signal to the clubs much earlier."

There will be no promotions and relegations after the season has ended.

All teams that were eligible to play in the regional league or 3rd division in 2020/21 can apply for this eligibility for the points round 2021/22 by May 15.

Meanwhile, the failed match and training operations are causing great concern for those responsible at the association.

DVV President René Hecht therefore urges all members to remain loyal to their clubs.

He is convinced that with appropriate hygiene concepts, sport is also possible in the amateur sector and an important contribution to society.

That is why the DVV initiated the “UNITED back” project.

As soon as Corona allows, the volleyball players should return to the (open-air) field in summer under competitive conditions.

The idea is that indoor rules will be used with teams of at least four players.

Freising volleyball players look ahead with mixed feelings

Dejan Jankovic shares the concerns of the DVV with regard to the loyalty of the members: "I'm curious to see how many of our members will turn their backs on volleyball." However, he also knows of many who couldn't wait for the halls to open or if the weather allows you to play beach volleyball.

“In the near future we will develop plans to keep our members and especially the youngsters happy.” As for the “UNITED back” project, Jankovic could imagine that one could offer a fun round with a competition or more tournaments.

Nevertheless: "After about a year without volleyball, the club's work has become difficult."

The DVV is currently cautiously optimistic that a season 2021/22 will be feasible.

We are currently working on scenarios in the event that gaming operations are still influenced by Corona in the coming autumn and winter.
