Those entitled to vaccinate should be able to voluntarily dispense with a corona vaccination for participants of the Olympic Games.
This is what the former swimming star Michael Groß suggested.
"Other vaccinees could donate their privilege to athletes," wrote the multiple Olympic champion on Tuesday in a post on the professional network Xing.
The reason for the advance, which the »Albatros« himself described as an »unusual idea in an exceptional time«, is the so-called playbook.
This sets out the hygiene measures and rules of conduct for the Olympic Games in Tokyo from July 23 to August 8.
Adhering to these is not possible even in a contactless sport like swimming, said Groß.
"Without a vaccination of all those involved, the Olympics cannot take place in good conscience." He himself would be willing to donate such a vaccine "if it were possible".
Groß, who won gold twice in Los Angeles in 1984 and once in Seoul in 1988, fears equal opportunities: “Because each country has to decide individually whether and how athletes are vaccinated in time for the Olympics.
A number of countries are guaranteed not to hesitate to protect their athletes. "
Associations and athletes in Germany have recently spoken out against giving preference to athletes when vaccinating against the Sars-CoV-2 virus.
Priority in immunization are given to the particularly vulnerable elderly, people with health problems, and medical and nursing staff.
