The Israel Police has opened a criminal investigation on suspicion of defrauding Bnei Sakhnin fans and receiving anything fraudulently by the team's management, following events that preceded the game in which Betar Jerusalem was hosted in Doha at the end of last November.
According to the police explanation, already during the summer break of 2021, the Ministry of Labor sculpted the use of two stands at the stadium in Sakhnin, which contain about two thousand seats, due to safety deficiencies.
On the day of the game in question, about 6,000 fans of the local team arrived at the stadium, all presenting a proper entrance ticket or subscription card, and even though the stadium was already full, heavy crowd pressure was created outside it, even after the game had already begun.
Fearing for the lives of the fans, due to the great pressure, those fans were put in the wrong stands, but immediately after the game an investigation was opened in the fraud department of the Central Unit of the Northern District, which revealed that the Bnei Sakhnin management knowingly sold more than a thousand tickets.
The Israel Police also said that in recent days a number of suspects among members of the Bnei Sakhnin management have been questioned on suspicion of receiving anything fraudulently, and have been accused of defrauding fans, as they were sold tickets that could not be used.
In addition, an investigation was opened on suspicion of violating licensing conditions and violating a legal provision.
The investigation is still ongoing and more suspects are expected to be questioned.
