Cross-country skier, Norwegian Theres Joahog, won today (Saturday) the first gold medal awarded at the Winter Olympics in Beijing, after crossing the finish line first in the 44: 13.7-minute skiathlon competition.
The 33-year-old Jehoog, the reigning world champion, was 30.2 seconds ahead of Russia's Natalia Nafreiba and Teresa Stadlover finished third with 44: 44.2 minutes.
This competition is similar to a snow marathon, which is divided into two parts: in the first, a 7.5-kilometer track where you skate in the classic style, on grooved paths in their way and another 7.5 kilometers in the freestyle where you switch to shorter and faster sections.
Norway also continued to celebrate in the biathlon competition, collecting the gold medal in the mixed relay competition with 1: 06: 45.6 hours, in a drama that was decided at the very last minute when it overtook the French quartet by 9 hundredths and the Russian Olympic team by 1.5 seconds, which settled for bronze.

A big celebration for the Chinese host, who achieved her first gold medal, in the mixed relay final, in a fast skating short course, at the end of a dramatic final where they finished with 2: 37.348 minutes and overtook in 16 thousandths the second ranked Italy and third Hungary, after Canada was disqualified.
In the 3,000-meter freestyle on the ice, Dutchman Irene Schauten won gold, setting a new Olympic record of 3: 56.93 minutes.
In the ski jumps on a normal slope, the Slovenian Orsha Bugatai finished first with 239 points.
