Italian Ariana Fontana won the gold medal in the 500m short track speed skating at the Winter Olympics, currently being held in the Chinese capital, Beijing.
Fontana won the race over her Dutch rival Susan Scholting in a time of 49.42 seconds, 8 seconds behind Schulting, while Canadian record holder Kim Putin won the bronze medal she previously obtained in 2018.
The Winter Games will continue until February 20 and will witness the participation of 2,900 athletes from 91 countries who will compete for 109 gold medals.
