After the double medal run by the German women, tears of joy shed.

But the ARD commentator also experienced an emotional moment.

Beijing - On Tuesday afternoon, the German lugers celebrated, among other things, the gold medal in the women's individual competition.

Natalie Geisenberger kept her nerve on the Yanqing toboggan run and was crowned Olympic champion in this discipline for the third time in a row.

The native of Munich was moved to tears, and the commentator of the ARD broadcast also provided an emotional moment during the award ceremony.

Not only 34-year-old Geisenberger was on the podium, but also her teammate Anna Berreiter, who was twelve years younger and won silver in her Olympic debut.

Reporter Peter Grube had accompanied the German double triumph, and immediately after the German national anthem, the 63-year-old addressed the television viewers directly.

"Congratulations again to Natalie Geisenberger!

And I have to say personally: I also have a little tear in my eyes, because after almost 41 years it was my last live report on the first”, the sports presenter announced his departure after more than four decades.

"Thank you, dear viewers, for letting me into your living room, and of course to all the production and editorial staff.

I'll be out then.

Julia, please take over now.”

With that, Grube gave one last time to presenter Julia Scharf, who still had a few warm words for her colleague.

“Yes, then of course we would like to take this opportunity to say many, many thanks, including Peter Grube, for being a luge reporter for 41 years.

You've accompanied so many," said the 41-year-old.

Grube had become known as an Olympic commentator for summer and winter games, he was there for the first time in 1996 in Atlanta.

In 2005 he was awarded the Richard Hartmann Prize for special journalistic services to the sport by the German bobsleigh and sled association Grube.

In 2012, the man from Aachen was also among the nominees for the German TV Award.

Given the two medals, Grube could not have chosen a better time to end his television career.

However, he will not retire completely, he will still be able to be heard in the stream at the ongoing Winter Games.
