South Korean Hwang Daeheon won the 1500m in the short track event program on Wednesday at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
Hwang, 2018 Olympic vice-champion in the 500m, beat Canadian Steven Dubois and Russian Semen Elistratov, who had already won the bronze medal in the distance four years ago, after a final between ten skaters, an unusual number in due to repechages in the semi-finals.
Hwang gave South Korea, the benchmark nation for short-track, its first medal in the discipline since the start of the 2022 Olympics.
