After leaving his position on the team, the coach shared his experiences from Israel in an interview in Austria: "Going to the shelter in the middle of the night is not pleasant"

After ending his tenure as coach of the Israeli national team, Willy Rotensteiner was interviewed today (Wednesday) by the Austrian "Krone" and told about his experiences in Israel during the "Guardian" campaign in May 2021.

"It was a great experience to stay in Israel and watch the war for ten days. It was very difficult for me," Rotensteiner said, admitting that the situation frightened him.

"If you have to go to the shelter when there are missiles in the middle of the night and hear the alarms from there, then it's not pleasant. I was scared, I do not want to experience it again."

Later in the interview, the 59-year-old Austrian noted that he is proud of "sporting achievements that will take Israel far in the coming years" and that he is open to new suggestions "if something interesting comes up".

On his work for the Israeli team, he said: "My goal was to get the players to work as one unit, and my relationship with the players was very important. The team had three leaders - Captain Beavers Natcho, Eran Zehavi and Monas Dabour. I worked with many players but these three are special."
