Winter Olympics 2022: still a medalist, Quentin Fillon Maillet wants "to continue to make the French dream"

2022-02-12T11:59:42.304Z

In silver in the sprint on Saturday, the Frenchman won his third Olympic medal. And intends to continue Sunday with the pursuit.

Each race has its own medal.

Olympic vice-champion in the sprint on Saturday, Quentin Fillon Maillet continues his superb momentum after the silver in the mixed relay and the gold in the individual.

With this new podium, he becomes the third French biathlete to win three medals in the same Olympics after Martin Fourcade and Anaïs Bescond.

The Jurassic savors his series, but he has every intention of not interrupting it on Sunday (11:45 a.m. in France) during the pursuit from which he will start in second position, 25 seconds behind his great rival of the Games of Beijing, the Norwegian Johannes Boe.

What do you feel with this silver medal obtained after the gold of the individual?

QUENTIN FILLON MAILLET.

The result is not as strong as the individual, and I am already well in pursuit of tomorrow (Editor's note: Sunday).

But I'm super satisfied.

I had approached this race as if nothing had been won and that I still had a lot of things to look for in these Games.

I'm in too good a position to let things go and tell myself that the goal has been achieved.

It's just great to have a third medal in three races.

I validate a superb season.

Johannes was stronger on the skis today.

Even without making a mistake, I don't know if there was a way to get the gold.

How did you experience this race?

Johannes was in front of me to lead the rhythm and the tempo (Editor's note: Fillon Maillet left a competitor after the Norwegian, one minute).

I quickly realized that he was in great shape and that I didn't have the same as on the individual.

I gave the maximum.

My fault on the first shot, the down shot, gave me a little doubt because I said to myself: “If there are some who fill up, you will have to be very good to hope for a podium”.

But hey, on arrival it's a podium and it rewards good form in the legs and in the head.

I intend to approach the pursuit, a format that I really like, in the same way.

You become the third French biathlete with three medals in the same Olympics...

I'm very happy about it.

I hope that I will continue to inspire France and the planet.

How did you digest your gold medal on Tuesday?

I finished the interviews at 11:30 p.m. for a race that had started at 4:30 p.m.... I was very tired.

I landed, but behind I accused the blow.

We did a scrub yesterday (Editor's note: Friday) and I felt that there was still a little fatigue.

I tried to sleep well, to rest as best as possible, but maybe that explains why I had a little more trouble with Johannes.

But hey, it's a rich man's problem.

You find yourself 25 seconds behind him for the chase...

If he keeps the same form, I just have to hope he makes more shooting errors to try to go after him.

But it's biathlon, we don't know what can happen.

I'm going to stay fully in my race, it can still largely play for the gold if the circumstances want to smile on me.

What is it like to be with the two Boe brothers on the podium (Editor's note: Tarjei finished third)?

I am very proud to share it with the two brothers.

They are great competitors, and two super nice and fair-play guys.

We make war on the track, but outside there is a friendship that is created, even if we rarely meet.

It's great to be against them.
