Drug scandal at Winter Olympics: 15-year-old skating star's team will be investigated | Israel today

The International Olympic Committee has asked the Anti-Drug Agency to investigate the team of Camila and Aliba, the Russian skater who failed a drug test at the Winter Games in Beijing

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has asked the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to investigate Camilla Valieva's team, while the teenage Russian skater awaits her fate in the big drug case at the Beijing Olympics.

"We want WADA to investigate Vallebe's team in this case. A whole range of things have been done," IOC spokesman Mark Adams said at a news conference today (Sunday).

A hearing by the Sports Arbitration Court (CAS) is set to take place during the day after the IOC, the International Skating Union (ISU) and WADA appealed against the revocation of the 15-year-old temporary suspension by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).

Valieva was found positive for a banned drug at its national championship last December, but more than six weeks passed before the result was published.

Her future at the Beijing Games and the gold medal for the Russian Olympic Committee in the national team competition is now at stake against the backdrop of the global storm.

Valieva is one of the youngest athletes ever to be found positive in a drug test at the Olympics, in a case that has sparked outrage from fans, athletes and anti-drug supporters around the world.

Many have questioned the role of adults around the adolescent skater and the ongoing scourge of Russian doping in international sports.

Valieva's coach, Tuberidze's coach, said she was sure Shaleviya was "innocent" in an interview with Russian state television on Saturday.
