Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin also missed her last chance at an individual medal at the Beijing Olympics.
In the combination, the highly favored American and reigning world champion in slalom was eliminated after only twelve goals.
Michelle Gisin from Switzerland then repeated her Olympic victory from 2018. The Swiss flag bearer had previously won bronze in the slalom.
Silver went to Gisin's teammate Wendy Holdener, bronze to Federica Brignone of Italy.
The American Alpine Team's best hope and one of the best female slalom skiers the sport has ever seen once again stared in disbelief at the track.
In her career she has already won 73 World Cups.
Now she got nothing again.
After finishing the combination's descent 0.56s off the leader - a gap she could have closed - Shiffrin admitted she's struggling with her confidence in the slalom.
"I don't know, I've got to get over the idea that I'll be out at the fifth gate," she said between the two heats.
A German runner was not at the start, as was Vice World Champion Petra Vlhova from Slovakia, who left injured.
The last competition of the Alpines is the team event on Saturday.
