Third podium for the Israeli judo team at the Tel Aviv Grand Slam. This time the winner is Tohar Abutbul, who achieved a bronze medal at the end of a short fight against Giovanni Esposito in the weight category up to 73 kg.
Botbol dominated the fight from the first moment and after two minutes he achieved a beautiful exercise in Vasari, which was enough for him to defeat the Italian opponent.
"What won me the battle was the fighting spirit and less the technical side. Although I was not good enough, I still managed to win, even though I am not yet at my peak at this stage of the season," concluded Botbol, who maintained restraint after the victory.
Abutbul started the day in the second round with a victory over Luca Othman from France and then defeated Somon Muhammadakov of Azerbaijan.
In the semifinals he suffered three disqualifications in a minute and a half against Hidiat Hydrov and was left with the chance to win a bronze - and in this battle I will not disappoint.
As you may recall, on the opening day, Israel achieved two medals, when Baruch Shmailov (66 kg) went up to receive the gold medal and Timna Nelson Levy achieved the bronze weighing up to 57 kg.
