The 40-year-old Swiss champion, who has been struggling with right knee problems for two years, will not be back on the circuit for the tournament

Severin Lüthi had prepared the ground.

In an interview granted this week to the Swiss daily Tages-Anzeiger, Roger Federer's coach explained that he did not see his protege playing the next Wimbledon tournament, scheduled for June 27 to July 10.

Sad news for Swiss fans that “Rodger” confirmed himself this Saturday.

Dismissed from the circuit for eight months due to right knee pain, the former world number 1 came to attend the stage of the Ski World Cup in Lenzerheide, Switzerland, where Frenchman Romane Miradoli triumphed.

On this occasion, he answered questions from the public channel SRF.

He reassured his aficionados about his health before confiding that he was considering his return to the courts for… “the end of summer, beginning of autumn”.

A delay which excludes any presence for the Wimbledon tournament at the end of June.

Federer, who will turn 41 on August 8, therefore no longer hopes to be delivered in time for his favorite tournament which he won 7 times.

"I'm fine, much better," he said.

For two months, I moved around with crutches, it was long and I had to start from scratch.

But it was the right thing to do.

The knee was not well after Wimbledon.

Federer said he had a "very good MRI" a few weeks ago, which made him "very positive".

"Now I'm slowly coming to a phase where I can think of a comeback," Federer said.

He could make his comeback at the Laver Cup from September 23 to 25 in London.

The winner of twenty Grand Slam tournaments has not played since his defeat in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in July 2021 against the Pole Hubert Hurkacz.

Suffering from the right knee for two years and operated on several times, the Swiss only played thirteen games in 2021 and six in 2020. He is in 27th place in the world rankings.
