The club confirmed this on Sunday morning.

The trainer's dismissal had previously been communicated in various media.

Grammozis is doomed by a 3:4 home defeat against Hansa Rostock.

After the 25th matchday of the 2nd Bundesliga, the Royal Blues are only sixth in the table.

The Bundesliga relegated team has only taken four points from the past four games and has already suffered eight defeats this season.

Schalke is six points behind on a direct promotion place and will miss the targeted return to the Bundesliga.

“We have reached the phase of the season where the big decisions are made.

We were no longer convinced that our target, promotion to the Bundesliga, still had a sufficiently high probability in the current constellation.

We are therefore of the opinion that the team needs a new impetus in the season finale, ”said sports director Rouven Schröder on the dismissal of Grammozis.

Since the beginning of the year, the team has lacked "the necessary consistency, both in terms of the result and in particular the central performance parameters," said Sport Director Peter Knäbel.

The club is still convinced of the quality of the squad.

"But in order to be able to be successful in the fight for the top positions, we need continuous further development, which we discussed but didn't see," said Knäbel.

Grammozis took over the Revierclub almost exactly a year ago.

He was also unable to prevent relegation from the Bundesliga.

Schalke did not initially name a successor.

A regeneration session is to take place this Sunday.

Schalke wants to provide information on how to proceed on Monday.
