Russia appeals the veto of FIFA and UEFA to Russian teams

Russia responds to vetoes in football.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) received this Tuesday appeals filed by the Russian Football Union (FUR) against the decisions adopted on February 28, 2022 by the FIFA Council Bureau and the UEFA Executive Committee to suspend to all Russian teams and clubs from participation in their respective competitions until further notice.

Specifically, as a result of said decision, Russia was excluded from the qualifying play-off for the World Cup and Spartak Moscow was eliminated from the Europa League, so they will not play the round of 16 matchup (days 10 and 17 of this month) against German Leipzig.

According to the CAS in a statement, the appeal filed against FIFA is directed against it, UEFA, the Polish Football Association, the Swedish Football Association, the Czech Republic Football Association, the Czech Football Association Montenegro and the Malta Football Association.

And the one presented against UEFA is also directed against the federations of Greece, Belarus, Denmark, Luxembourg, Austria, Malta, Portugal, England, Spain, Ireland and France.

In its appeals, the FUR asks the court to annul the contested decisions and reinstate all Russian teams and clubs from participating in FIFA and UEFA competitions.

Along with each appeal statement, the FUR has also submitted a request to stay the execution of each contested decision.

The CAS informs that two separate arbitration proceedings have been initiated and, in accordance with the Code of Sports Arbitration, will require the version of the parties sued by the FUR.
