The Russian Football Association announced today that it has submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the decision of the International Federations (FIFA) and the European Union (UEFA) to ban Russian teams from participating in the tournaments.

The TASS news agency quoted the federation in an official statement as saying: “These decisions are of a clearly discriminatory nature and harm a large number of athletes, coaches, staff of clubs and national teams, and millions of Russian and foreign fans, whose interests must be protected by international sports organizations in the first place,” noting that he would demand a court Sports arbitration with a quick procedure on this file three weeks before the confrontation of Russia and Poland in the European qualifying supplement for the World Cup in Qatar.

The statement explained that he will demand compensation for the damages resulting from these decisions, stressing the need for sports to remain outside politics under any circumstances, especially since the principle of not confusing sports and politics has been adopted by the sports community for many years as one of the most important principles.

The two federations (FIFA) and (UEFA) for football announced in a joint statement on the 28th of last month, suspending the teams and clubs of Russia from all their competitions until further notice.
