Villarreal is playing in the Champions League quarter-finals for the third time in its history and for the first time since 2009 (they beat Inter in 2006 and lost in the second against Arsenal).

His great thrashing in Turin against Juventus put him among the eight surviving Champions League teams and matched for a place in the semi-finals against one of the main favorites for the title.

Of all Bayern's threats, none is as dangerous as Poland's Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 12 goals in eight games.

The local coach, Unai Emery, faces his first quarter in his 50th match in the competition.

With him in charge, Villarreal has not lost any European tie.

This is his hardest yet.

- No surprises in the drawing presented by Unai Emery.

Danjuma and Gerard Moreno are Villarreal's two weapons in attack, positioned in front of the midfield line.

A lot of verticality and depth on the left with the novelty of Estupiñán on the side.

Bayern will seek against Villarreal to return to the Champions League semi-final two years later, when in the 2019-20 edition they lifted their sixth trophy by beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final in Lisbon.

The German team will try, therefore, to overcome the barrier in which it had fallen last season against the Parisian team itself.

For its part, Bayern Munich will play the pass to the semifinal with the label of undefeated in the Champions League (8J 7V 1E) and as the absolute leader of the Bundesliga, with an 11-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund, which occupies the second place.

While in the continental competition the Bavarians have just overwhelmingly eliminated RB Salzburg (on aggregate 8-2), in the domestic league the team commanded by Julian Nagelsmann has gone six games in a row without defeat (W4 D2).

This is the third time that Villarreal has reached the quarterfinals in a Champions League.

He already did it in the 2005-06 and 2008-09 seasons, when under the command of Manuel Pellegrini he dropped Inter Milan for the first time, reaching the semi-final, and fell to Arsenal three years later.

In that sense, the victory against Juventus means that the people of Castellón go to the match against Bayern Munich with an extra dose of morale.

Villarreal is aware of the magnitude of its rival, but will try to take advantage of the support from the stands to stand up to a European giant and look for a result that gives them an advantage for the second leg.
