The seven-time champion will have to take criticism after the race - while team-mate Russell has made a strong move up to P5, the Brit is languishing in 14th place.

He can't get past Gasly in front.

Mick Schumacher is out!

Man, that's bitter for Schumi-Junior.

He wants too much, brakes too late and races across the grass.

As a result, he loses control of the car, spins and has to park the car.

It's not his first driving mistake this season.

Leclerc pushes like crazy.

Vettel also got off to a good start, the man from Heppenheim slipped from 13th place to 9th place. Rain conditions are known to be his specialty.

Schumacher is fighting his way up the field and is currently in 16th place. The track is drying out, but dry tires still make no sense.

There is a risk of rain chaos in Imola!

One thing is already clear: This will not be an easy race for the drivers.

The track is wet, all cars will probably start with rain tires.

At the moment it is no longer raining, so it is possible that dry tires will be used during the course of the race.

But the rain can come back at any time, the clouds over Emilia-Romagna are dark.

It's going to be a grab bag!

Safety car driver Bernd Mayländer is prepared for deployments - it's relatively likely that he'll have to take action today given the conditions.

“Anything is possible, from interruptions to the abandonment of the race,” he predicted in a Sky interview before the race.

Imola – Max Verstappen took his sprint victory from Imola (read it here in the live ticker) almost routinely, Charles Leclerc bravely waved to the Ferraristi after his narrow defeat.

World champion Verstappen disturbed the Scuderia party in Imola, at least in the short race over 100 km - and in addition to eight world championship points, he also secured first place for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix on Sunday (3 p.m. / RTL and Sky) in front of the world championship leader secured from Monaco.

"It will definitely be different tomorrow," said Verstappen, who was victorious for the second time in the fourth sprint in Formula 1 history: "In the end, Charles' tires wore off and I was able to start my maneuver." Leclerc, who continues with 78 points confidently leading the drivers' standings, consoled himself: "It's still a start from the front row."

Exciting duel for victory

Ex-world champion Sebastian Vettel finished 13th in the Aston Martin and missed his first points of the season, as did Mick Schumacher im Haas, who finished tenth.

"There was nothing more possible," said Vettel on Sky: "It's bitter when you lose so many places and are literally eaten up." The Heppenheimer had started the sprint from ninth place.

The short race was also without anything countable for series constructors' world champion Mercedes: record champion Lewis Hamilton did not get past 14th place, his new teammate George Russell (both England) crossed the finish line in eleventh place.

In the duel for the world championship, a hot fight should break out again between Verstappen and Leclerc.

Mick Schumacher has ten best chances of scoring points for the first time.

For Sebastian Vettel, this endeavor tends to be more difficult.
