Max Kothny looks back on his mistakes as Türkgücü managing director.

The firing of Alex Schmidt was a sticking point.

For the future he rules out one thing.

Munich

- "We failed in many areas," Max Kothny replies in an interview with kicker when asked why President and financier Hasan Kivran withdrew from Türkgücü Munich in January.

The club and he had not been able to continue the positive sporting development of the past few years.

And according to Kothny, what Kivran lacked most was perspective.

It is difficult to survive alongside FC Bayern and TSV 1860.

The Türkgücü project with the advance into professional football had started very promisingly for the club and Kothny.

Türkgücü Munich: dismissal of Schmidt as a sticking point

The 25-year-old was thrown into the deep end.

“I came relatively unprepared for the role of Managing Director at Türkgücü and had a clear vision.

I unpacked my elbows and didn't follow the unwritten rules of German football.

This polarized me from the start.

I was aware of that,” says Kothny.

A path that did not bring him much sympathy, but was successful at least at the beginning.

In retrospect, in his opinion, he should have insisted on sustainability more often than just looking at quick success.

Would you like an example?

After promotion to the 3rd division, Türkgücü was doing well under coach Alex Schmidt and the club was about to establish itself in professional football.

But not enough for Kothny & Co.

Schmidt was released and Serdar Dayat was hired as his successor.

From today's perspective "not the happiest decision", he admits.

"We wanted too much.

Up to that point, things had worked perfectly with Alex,” says Kothny today.

After that it went down the drain for the Türkgücü until even the game had to be stopped in April.

"Professional football will probably no longer exist in Türkgücü."

Kothny will move to French professional club AS Nancy on May 1st.

Before that, however, he will try everything so that Türkgücü can start in the regional league next season.

The biggest problem?

Finding a suitable stadium.

"Despite the relegation, we are still the third-highest club in Munich and still have to beg for a venue.

SC Fürstenfeldbruck was the only club that offered its support.

We already had an appointment with the association there,” explains Kothny.

If all open questions are clarified, nothing stands in the way of a start in the regional league in the new season.

For Kothny the highest of feelings for Türkgücü for the near future.

“There will probably no longer be professional football at Türkgücü.

The goal should be to establish oneself in a few years with grown structures in the regional league,” says the upstart today.

Such statements would have been unthinkable not so long ago.

For Kothny, however, his new adventure will begin in just a few days.
