After last night (Wednesday) beating Villarreal 0: 2 in the first game of the Champions League semi-final, in Europe it is reported that Liverpool are planning to speed up talks with manager Jurgen Klopp on extending his contract at the club.

Klopp's current contract expires in June 2024, and the manager has previously said he intends to take a year off at least after the current contract expires.

But the luxury club are very pleased with the German and are interested in seeing him sign a new long-term contract.

In England it has been reported that Fenway president (who owns Liverpool) Mike Gordon has arrived at Anfield and watched yesterday's victory over Villarreal, and among other things the goal is to speed up negotiations with the esteemed coach.

Klopp has been leading Liverpool since 2015 and marched them to their first Premier League championship in 2020 and to winning the Champions League in 2019.

Liverpool are currently second in the league, one point behind leaders Manchester City, with five more rounds remaining until the end of the season.

In the Champions League, Klopp's team achieved a significant advance towards qualifying for the final.
