According to an Odoxa poll, 65% of people questioned say they prefer a former sportsman to a political figure to lead

While Emmanuel Macron was re-elected President of the Republic last Sunday, uncertainty still hangs over the composition of his future government.

For their part, the French were invited to express themselves on the place that sport should take, according to them, over the next five years.

According to the sports barometer conducted by Odoxa, Keneo and RTL and entitled "sport in the second five-year term of Emmanuel Macron", 65% of our fellow citizens are in favor of the appointment of a former sportsman at the head of the Ministry of Sports .

They are only 31% to favor a political or federal personality.

Appointing a former top athlete as head of the sports ministry is nothing revolutionary.

Roxana Maracineanu, ex-world swimming champion, currently occupies the post which has, in the past, been entrusted to the fencer Laura Flessel, at the beginning of the first five-year term of Emmanuel Macron or to the judoka David Douillet between 2011 and 2012 under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy.

In recent days, some rumors led to Tony Parker but the former basketball player said he was not interested in the job.

The daily 30 minutes of sport at school received favorably

In this barometer, we also learn that the French are divided as to the ability of Emmanuel Macron to carry out a good sports policy.

While sport has often been left out of the debates in recent weeks, only 50% believe it capable of succeeding in this area.

The figure climbs slightly (55%) on the side of sports enthusiasts.

On the other hand, the proposal of the re-elected president, consisting in establishing 30 minutes of sport daily at school, is widely acclaimed.

89% of French people say they are convinced of the benefits of such a measure on the health of young people, but only 58% consider it feasible.

On the administrative level, the question of the place of the Ministry of Sports in the future government will also have to be decided.

Should it be integrated into the Ministry of Education and Youth, as is the case today, or should it be given a specific portfolio?

It would be a strong signal, two years from the Paris Games.

On the question, opinions differ among the French, especially for sports enthusiasts.

They are 49% to opt for the second solution.
