Disaster: Sergei Blanchuk, who previously played for Maccabi Haifa, was reported tonight (Saturday) in the Ukrainian media.

According to local media reports, the 47-year-old former actor was killed in artillery bombardment by the Russian army in the city of Bahmut, located in the Donetsk region.

Blanchuk began his career at Dynamo Kyiv, and after four years in the reserve team, he was loaned to Maccabi Haifa in 1996, when he was only 21 years old.

He played three seasons in the green uniform, and won the state cup with the team, when he scored one of the two goals against Hapoel Jerusalem in the final.

Blanchuk, who was a lawyer by profession after his retirement, took an active part in the fighting of the local forces and found himself dead at the front.
