From "Asia Imbiss" to "Zambonis"

The Dorfen city championship for amateur soccer players has a very long tradition.

Dorfen – The initiator was the youth center in Dorfen (JZ) more than 40 years ago.

At that time there were just four teams from the city area, nowadays there are usually more than ten teams from villages and the surrounding area.

This year, a total of twelve teams with such illustrious names as "Zambonis", "Schangwang", "Copacabana", "Asia Imbiss", "Zentralmassiv" played for the city championship at the TSV training ground in Mühlanger - and even a women's team mixed up as "Chicken McLengdorf". With.

As last year's winners, Team OBD (Oberdorfen) organized the tournament well this year.

In addition to sporting activities, the competition is always a big leisure event, where hobby footballers often enjoy the day with kith and kin and meet old friends.

Each team had set up its own pavilion with its own music system right next to the playing field, sometimes with a leather couch for chilling and beer table sets for the beer pong game.

The thirst was not only quenched with water, but as the tournament progressed, sometimes with a cool pint or a strong pull on the giant straw in the sangria bucket.

The tournament always has an integrative aspect, because among the many local recreational footballers there were players from a wide variety of nations who live in Dorfener Gäu.

In terms of sport, the ten-minute games, which started at 8 a.m., were fair overall.

A few "professional" footballers were also back, but they didn't always have the desired effect for the teams.

At the end of a preliminary round with two groups and subsequent knockout games, the team "Balkan" and "3896" made it to the final in the late afternoon.

With dwindling strength, but still a lot of ambition, seconds before the end, there was a short, intense difference of opinion and the following suspension of two hotheads.

"Balkan" with team manager Edis Bosno from the AH of TSV Dorfen was already the new city champion with a clear 3:1 lead.

After the final whistle there were shake hands and the dispute was forgotten.

"Balkan" now traditionally has to host the next hobby tournament in 2023 as the winner.
