Starting tenth after an engine problem in qualifying, Max Verstappen still managed to win his eighth success of the season, the 28th in his career.

The Dutchman, on soft at the start, quietly moved up to sixth place before putting on medium tires twice.

The perfect strategy.

Calm and serene, the reigning world champion, who still refuses to make the slightest mistake, took his Red Bull to an unexpected victory and hit hard in the world championship because Charles Leclerc is now relegated to 80 points nine races from the end.

Mercedes regularity

For the second time this season, after France, the German brand has placed its two drivers on the box in Hungary.

Starting on pole and with soft tires, George Russell had a very good first part of the race before slowing down with medium tires to finally take third place.

Seventh on the grid, Lewis Hamilton had a very solid attacking race.

The seven-time world champion completed two first high-quality stints with the mediums before ending in a cannonball with the softs.

Second, LH44 signs a fifth podium in a row and confirms its return to the forefront.

Vettel celebrates his retirement

The announcement of his retirement, Thursday, at the end of the season, moved the paddock.

Sebastian Vettel has been racing in Formula 1 in recent races and on Sunday he scored a valuable point for Aston Martin with his tenth place in Budapest.

The German, for the fifth time this season in the points, was solid on a tricky track and made a magnificent comeback from 18th position to 10th.

This allows his team to return to seven points from Alpha Tauri to the constructors (27 points against 20).

Ferrari loves getting hurt

As often, Ferrari disappointed in Hungary.

The opportunity was great to sign a double in Hungary or at least to place its two drivers on the podium.

And halfway through the race, the plan was unfolding wonderfully with Charles Leclerc in the lead and Carlos Sainz third.

But, the Scuderia panicked when Verstappen made his second stop (Lap 38).

Ferrari then chose to cover the stop of the Dutchman, yet 5th and eight seconds behind the Monegasque, but by putting on hard rubber on Ferrari number 16. A fatal choice for Leclerc who suffered with these tires which did not work in Hungary.

First, Leclerc then fell to sixth place.

A huge disappointment not even mitigated by Carlos Sainz, fourth, and unable to keep pace with the Mercedes at the end of the race.

Ricciardo not in the game

The Australian remained on good performance with points scored in Austria then in France.

Ninth on the grid with a McLaren which finds sensations, Daniel Ricciardo was planning to score points on Sunday but the race was difficult for the former Renault driver.

Not on the pace, he was also penalized five seconds for spearing Sebastian Vettel at mid-race.

In the end, Daniel Ricciardo finished 15th by one lap.

A race to forget.
