A huge achievement for the open water swimmer, Matan Roditi, who finished fourth today (Sunday) at the European Championships in Rome, after crossing the finish line in a time of 1:50:56.6 hours - just 17.5 seconds from a place on the podium.
The 23-year-old Roditi, who made history when he became the first Israeli in this event at the Olympic Games (where he also finished fourth), jumped in Ostia - close to the capital city - in the Olympic 10 km event, looked great the whole way and belonged to the top group.
The competition was conducted in difficult conditions, with high waves - the same conditions that caused the competition to be stopped in the middle of the previous day in the 25 kilometer swim.
The Israeli was in the top three at the start, but after the feeding, dropped a little in the ranking.

Roditi, guided by the team's coach Amir Ofer, was one of 30 participants who signed up for the competition, when some of them simply could not stand the difficult competition and had to withdraw during it, and some of them also needed medical treatment.
The gold medal was eventually won by the Italian Domenico Acrenza with 1:50:33.6 hours, followed by the two Frenchmen - in silver, Oliver Clement with 1:50:37.3 hours and bronze Logan Frontani with 1:50:39.1 hours.
