Frenchman Adrian Mannarino beat number two seed Botic van de Zandshulp of the Netherlands 6-0, 6-4 on Friday to advance to the final of the ATP Winston-Salem Tennis Open where he will meet Serbian Lazlo Djere.
Sixty-fifth player in the world, the Frenchman, very fit, won 21 of his first 26 services and his opponent, 23rd in the world, never managed to break against him during this match which lasted 75 minutes.
Mannarino, 34, has lost nine of his last ten ATP finals, winning a single title, on Rosmalen's lawn in 2019. His last final was in November 2020 in Astana (loss to Australian John Millman).
In the 1st round of the US Open, he will face a player from the qualifications.
In the other semi-final, Lazlo Djere, 89th player in the world, needed nine match points to overcome Switzerland's Marc-Andrea Huesler, 102nd player in the world, 7-6 (7/3), 7-6 (7/5), after two hours and 18 minutes of play.
