Olympic runner-up France advanced to the quarter-finals after a drama against Turkey, European champions Slovenia and hosts Germany also hope to follow suit.

Turkey - France 87:86

The Turks messed up in the last minute, lost the advantage and were dragged into overtime where they lost and missed an opportunity to qualify for the quarterfinals for the first time since 2009. The Tricolors started well, took the lead in the first quarter and ran to 13:25 at the beginning of the second quarter thanks to Toma Hertel's three-pointer.

Chedi Osman managed to stop the momentum, but France still went to the locker room with a 35:43 lead, led by Gober and Gershon Yabusla.

The comeback was mainly led by Toncher with a bunch of shots from outside the arc, on the way to a 6:22 third quarter, including a 0:17 run (!), which gave the Turks a 49:57 advantage going into the decisive quarter.

Timothy Luau-Cabarro equalized to 66:66, five minutes to go, and then the real drama began.

Fournier returned the tricolor to 72:73, but on the other side committed a three-point foul on Forkan Kurkamez, who scored three times and made it 73:75.

Osman missed two fateful free throws, Fournier stole, missed, but Rudy Gober redeemed himself with a big dunk that tied the game at 77:77, two seconds to the buzzer.

Toncher missed from outside the arc, and the teams went to overtime.

France already led by five points, the Turks did not give up, reduced to a point and had a chance to win after two penalty fouls by Gober, but Kurkamez lost and the French celebrated.

Gober led with 20 points and 17 rebounds, Fournier and Hertel scored 13 each, while Toncher shot 22 (including 6 of 10 from outside the arc) and Kurkamez finished with 18.

Slovenia - Belgium (15:45)

The holder of the European Cup for national teams managed the House of Death impressively and finished first there, despite a surprising stumble in the loss to Bosnia.

The prize is a crossover with the modest Belgium team, which is not expected to make it too difficult for Doncic and his friends.

Gordon Herbert's players impressed in the group stage and only the loss to Slovenia prevented them from the first place, after collecting four victories.

Now Germany are building on the support of their home crowd to claim their first European medal since 2005, while Montenegro are one surprise win away from achieving their record EuroBasket title.

Guard Nick Wheeler-Babb, who missed the game against Hungary, is also in doubt for the round of 16 with the host.

A relatively accessible home and an important victory over Turkey in the last round allowed the Spaniards to qualify from first place, but now they have to prove their ability to compete for a medal also in a secondary squad, when on the other side will be the best quality opponent they have met so far.

Lithuania were on the brink of relegation after opening with three consecutive losses at the house of death, but recovered with wins over Hungary and Bosnia that should give them the confidence to aim for a respectable finish in the tournament.
