Liverpool FC won the top game against Manchester City in the English Premier League.
Jürgen Klopp's team won 1-0 (0-0) on Sunday with a late goal from Mohamed Salah (76th minute).
Both teams had previously missed several great chances in the course of the game, and Manchester City was denied a goal.
Defending champions City had been unbeaten in the championship race before the match.
Jürgen Klopp's Liverpoolers, on the other hand, had only scored ten points from eight league games so far, so the mood at Anfield was correspondingly tense.
The hosts determined the first few minutes, but Manchester cleared the first attacks down the right flank without any problems.
City got into the game better after about a quarter of an hour, but were initially unable to translate their possession of the ball into dangerous actions against Liverpool's well-organized defence.
Ilkay Gündoğan (17') missed the best opportunity: he tried a side kick from a central position, but was denied by goalkeeper Alisson.
On the other side, first Salah (20') failed with a solo, then Diogo Jota (23') headed too imprecisely before Andrew Robertson (25') missed from the inside left position.
Manchester City had to wait for the first good opportunities in the person of Erling Haaland until the 35th minute - but then the Norwegian got three of them: The Norwegian only tried a lob after a steep pass from Phil Foden, but Alisson, who ran out, snapped it in time arms up.
Shortly thereafter, Haaland headed over the goal (36') after Kevin De Bruyne's cross, then into Alisson's arms (40').
Liverpool then started the second half with another great opportunity: After a pass from Roberto Firmino, Salah (51') ran alone towards the opposing goal in a central position – Ederson deflected his shot just wide of the left post with his fingertips.
At the other end, Foden (53') scored to put the guests ahead - the goal was disallowed for a foul after being checked.
The game now swung back and forth between the penalty areas, with both teams taking a high risk.
That then paid off in Liverpool's favour: After a long drive, Salah again ran alone towards Ederson and shot again from the left – this time the goal landed.
Arsenal remain top of the table, Chelsea undefeated under Potter
In the intense final phase, Jürgen Klopp saw the red card.
He had complained too heavily to the assistant referee after the referee failed to penalize a foul on his goalscorer.
In the afternoon, Chelsea continued their winning streak under new coach Graham Potter.
The Londoners won 2-0 (1-0) at Aston Villa after two goals from England international Mason Mount (6th, 65th).
Arsenal won 1-0 (1-0) at Leeds United after a goal by Bukayo Saka (35th).
The league leaders' game had to be interrupted shortly after kick-off because the technology in the stadium was not working properly due to a brief power failure.
Manchester United and Newcastle United also drew goalless, while Southampton and West Ham drew 1-1.
City's defeat saw the gap to leaders Arsenal grow to four points.
With 23 points, City are level on points with Tottenham in second place.
Liverpool moved up to eighth place while still having a game fewer than some clubs further up.
