In the “Interview of the Week”, volleyball player Katrin Berghofer (24) from VSG Isar-Loisach talks about promotion to the district league, team spirit and the coach

Geretsried/Wolfratshausen – In the past two years, the VSG Isar-Loisach volleyball players have risen directly from the district league to the district league and into the district league.

Katrin Berghofer is a constant in the team coached by Dominik Hölzl.

The 24-year-old native of Eurasburg, who works as a primary school teacher in Penzberg, spoke to sports editor Thomas Wenzel about the new league and her sporting strengths and weaknesses.

Ms. Berghofer, the start today with the defeat against Munich East didn't go as well?

No, it was really annoying that we lost there.

Especially since it was very close in the third set with 24:26.

What was it?

The game was definitely at a high level.

But we made too many mistakes.

You then won against Unterhaching II, but it was difficult...

Yes, I don't know exactly why that was either.

We were probably too sure of victory beforehand.

VSG lost both games on the first day of the game, and last weekend they got their first win against Schwarz-Weiss München III.

Is it harder in the district league?

Yes absolutely.

In the district class, the competitors are not so stable - there are always fluctuations in performance between the different clubs or during a game.

But now in the district league all opponents are permanently strong.

What does that mean for the VSG?

That we can no longer just play along and hope for easy points, but have to make sure that we get some ourselves in attack.

What are the reasons for the successful march through from the district league upwards?

In previous years there were always a lot of changes within the team.

Players often came and went.

We've had a solid squad for a while now.

That pays off.

Last but not least, our interaction has also improved significantly.

And what is Dominik Hölzl's share, who is still a very young coach in comparison?

A big share.

Domi leads the team with openness and humor - that fits very well.

In addition, he constantly demands the team spirit of each individual - and he lives by example.

You've been at volleyball for a long time.

How did it start?

I started playing volleyball as a teenager at SV Eurasburg-Beuerberg.

But because there was no girls' team there, I switched to VSG Isar-Loisach at the age of 15.

There we had Domi as a trainer in the A-youth.

Because I completed my studies in Munich, I've always stuck with it.

You play Reception/Outside Attack.

Would you like to work somewhere else?

No, that's my favorite position.

What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?

Acceptance is definitely my forte.

As far as the attack is concerned, I have to play more with my eyes, so I better observe what's happening in the block or in the opponent's field and where the gaps are.

What is your goal for the season – for the team and for you personally?

It is important that we first establish ourselves as promoted players in the district league.

Then we can see if we can play further up the table next year.

The same applies to me as to the team – I want to be more consistent during the game.
