Mick Schumacher does not yet have a cockpit for the next F1 season.

However, there is an attractive option on the horizon: about the possibilities of a partnership with Audi.

Munich – Can Mick Schumacher prove himself in Formula 1 in 2023?

Germany's F1 hope and offspring of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher still has no cockpit for the coming season.

Even before the Mexican Grand Prix (Sunday from 9:00 p.m.) the whereabouts of the 23-year-old at Haas F1 are unclear.

Hiding out the debate about his future in Formula 1 is “not difficult.

I'm here to do a good job.

That's my focus.

That's what I can control," Schumacher Junior recently said.

While a new contract with the current employer is still pending, Audi's entry into F1 presents an attractive option.

Formula 1: Schumacher and Audi - vision of a German-German partnership

The entry of the VW subsidiary at Sauber does not open up new and attractive prospects for the son of an F1 legend in the short term, but in the medium term: the team, which is currently competing under the name Alfa Romeo, has the cockpits for the 2023 F1 season assigned .

However, after a bridging year, Mick Schumacher could replace one of the two drivers from 2024 or 2025 before the Audi works team is formed for 2026.

Rumor has it that Germany's F1 hope of the future and the future Audi factory team have already been in talks about a collaboration in which both parties are interested.

Formula 1 beckons a new boom in Germany because of Schumacher and Audi

There is little doubt that a commitment from Schumacher to Audi would be a win-win situation, provided that the sporting performance does not stagnate at the level that Haas will in 2021 and 2022.

On the one hand, the ex-Formula 2 champion could prove himself to a racing team with sufficient motorsport and technology expertise.

On the other hand, the German F1 team would have a prominent, local driver who would unite the German fan crowd behind him.

That would give new impetus to the recently diminished interest in the "premier class" in this country.

Schumacher also hopes that Audi will return to Formula 1 for Germany to return to the racing calendar.

German track not on the race calendar

When asked whether a German Grand Prix or a German driver named Mick Schumacher was more likely at Audi, the 23-year-old Haas driver told the German Press Agency (dpa): "Of course it's nice to hear that such a large corporation (Volkswagen, ed.) is also looking for a German driver.

But all that is still far away.

So I hope that the race in Germany will work out sooner.”

Also in the coming year 2023, Germany will not provide a racetrack despite the record number of 24 Grand Prix.

Formula 1 stopped in Germany for the last time in 2020 - but the race on the Nürburgring only came about because of the newly created and improvised racing calendar caused by the corona pandemic.
