The World Cup starts in Qatar in two weeks.
And in Senegal, there are obviously chances of winning the title.
Sadio Mané has played a large part in this.
Munich – The World Cup in Qatar is getting closer and closer.
Sadio Mané will also be there with Senegal.
As reigning Africa champions, the “Lions of Tiranga” are likely to be on the list of secret favorites at one or the other bookmaker.
Of course, the new star of FC Bayern has a big part to play in this.
Mané is the driving force behind the Senegalese squad, a two-time African Footballer of the Year and the crucial penalty taker in the Africa Cup of Nations victory against Egypt.
The hopes for the World Cup now rest on him.
Senegal reaches for the world title with Mané
Because Senegal wants to aim high with Mané, as Augustin Senghor, President of the Senegalese Football Association,
explained
to DW: “We want to prove to the world that we are capable of reaching the semi-finals or the final or even the World Cup win.” And: “If any African country can have this mission, it is Senegal.”
So it's just right that Mané is currently running really hot at Bayern.
He has scored regularly since the international break in mid-September.
But one of his greatest strengths is his modesty, as Abdoulaye Thiam, a journalist for the Senegalese newspaper
Sud Quotidien
at
Deutsche Welle
, emphasized: "He's a star, but he always keeps a clear head."
Senegal legend raves about Sadio Mané
El Hadji Diouf, ex-Senegal star, sees parallels between himself and Mané.
Both are linked by “the love for our country.
We want to make people happy.
We want to be role models for the younger generation.
It's not just about talent, it's a matter of the heart."
At the World Cup, Senegal will face hosts Qatar, the Netherlands and Ecuador in Group A.
But before it starts, Mané and the Bayern squad still have to play in the Bundesliga.
Most recently, however, Mané had already tested his World Cup shoes.
After all, the world title should be just before Christmas.
