Spain: violent incidents in Pamplona before Osasuna - Barcelona

In Pamplona this Tuesday afternoon, ultra supporters of FC Barcelona were at the origin of clashes with Basque supporters.


Before the Spanish league match between Osasuna and FC Barcelona (matchday 14, 9:30 p.m.) on Tuesday evening, radical Barça supporters caused incidents in a bar in Pamplona frequented by Osasuna supporters at the start of the evening, where they injured several people and caused material damage, according to Spanish media.

The first information indicates that several radical supporters of the Catalan team, some hooded, attacked several opposing supporters with knives and sticks at the door of a premises.

The police intervened.

An initial assessment reports three injuries.

The two clubs immediately issued a press release condemning these violent acts.

Barça clarifies that "president Joan Laporta has contacted the president of Osasuna, Luis Sabalza, to inform him of his total rejection" about these incidents.

"FC Barcelona regrets and condemns the acts of vandalism perpetrated this afternoon by ultra supporters in the city of Pamplona," said the Barça press release.

(...).FC Barcelona firmly rejects any act of violence inside and outside football stadiums and reaffirms its commitment to the fight against all forms of violence associated with the world of sport.

Barca board member Elena Fort also condemned the events.

"No, these criminals are not Barcelona fans.

Wearing a symbol does not make them “culés” (supporters), she commented on social media.

For its part, Osasuna published the following text: “Club Atlético Osasuna unreservedly condemns the violent incidents perpetrated by FC Barcelona ultras this afternoon in Pamplona.

Likewise, the entity expresses its solidarity with those affected and makes itself available to the supporters attacked.

The club ratifies its total opposition to any sign of violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance in sport and expresses its wish that tonight's game takes place in absolute normality.

At the break, Osasuna led 1-0, at the end of a “normal” first period, only marked by the exclusion for two yellow cards from Robert Lewandowski at half an hour, but unrelated to the pre-match overflows.
