Premier League standings
Stuck in an overloaded calendar, the clash between Citizens and Blues was the occasion to turn extensively, but the show lived up to it.
Still without Erling Haaland at kick-off - he didn't even enter this time - Pep Guardiola's men can thank their German substitute goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega, author of decisive parades in front of the young Lewis Hall (43rd, 63rd) and Chrisitan Pulisic (14th, 23rd, 74th).
His counterpart Edouard Mendy was also very good, repelling attempts by Jack Grealish (44th, 51st), but he could not do anything on a free kick from Riyad Mahrez on which Kalidou Koulibaly, in the wall, was the alone not to jump, letting the ball pass (1-0, 53rd).
Five minutes later, the Senegalese again had a good reflex in front of Mahrez, but Julian Alvarez, opportunist, was there to push the ball into the empty goal (2-0, 58th).
The Gunners on the mat
Leader in the Premier League standings, with only one defeat in thirteen games, Arsenal fell to Brighton who remained on two great victories, notably against Chelsea (4-1).
The Gunners had however taken the lead in the 20th minute through Eddie Nketiah, but the advantage was short-lived, their former player, Danny Wellbeck, equalizing seven minutes later from a penalty.
In the second half, Brighton was frighteningly realistic, scoring through his Japanese Kaoru Mitoma (1-2, 58th), who will be in Qatar, before Tariq Lamptey, who hopes to join him there with Ghana, drives the point home ( 1-3, 71st).

For its part, Tottenham had still not rested Harry Kane, replaced after an hour of play, all the same, while Richarlison played the last half hour.
It was not enough against Nottingham Forest who finished at ten after the exclusion of Orel Mangala fifteen minutes from the end, but the advantage of two goals thanks to Renan Lodi (50th) and Jesse Lingard (57th) was already acquired.
Among the other London disappointments, West Ham was beaten at home, on penalties, by Blackburn, a D2 club (2-2, 10-9 ap. pens) just like Crystal Palace was, more logically, at Newcastle, third in the Premier League (0-0, 3-2, after tab).
Revamped Reds … but qualified
In the other matches, Liverpool, very rejuvenated, trembled against Derby County (D3), but ended up winning (3-2) a penalty shootout which really became his specialty, since he had won the finals in this way. League Cup and FA Cup last year.
For its part, Southampton, which sacked its coach Ralph Hasenhüttl at the start of the week, also owed its salvation only to penalties against Sheffield Wendesday (D3).
