Liverpool struggling against third tier sides
Defending champions FC Liverpool narrowly escaped embarrassment in a duel against third division side Derby County.
The team of team manager Jürgen Klopp, who rotated vigorously and gave the 18-year-old German Melkamu Frauendorf his starting XI debut, only won 3-2 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.
It was 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Tottenham Hotspur embarrassed themselves with a majority and with national striker Harry Kane in the starting eleven 0: 2 (0: 0) at bottom of the league Nottingham Forest.
In contrast to the FA Cup, the League Cup in England is considered rather insignificant and even annoying for some clubs.
That's why many coaches spare their stars and give the youngsters a chance in the cup.
