When the violence in the fields escalates, a minister is needed to be there for the fans Israel today

The new Minister of Culture and Sports will face many challenges • Instead of throwing away the work of his predecessor, he must continue doing it and understand that the position is not a consolation prize • Football on Saturday is the least of his troubles

Even though the culture and sports case remains low in the priorities of Israeli governments in the modern era - it is still a case that receives a lot of exposure, even if it is a consolation prize for most politicians who take it reluctantly.

Even if the ministry's budget is not as high as the other ministries, in the end, any country that considers itself enlightened and progressive should understand the importance of sports and culture in the country.

This week the issue of football games on Saturday came up again.

But there is nothing to worry about, since both the designated minister and Bezalel Smotrich are from the same coalition, so it seems that the two will be able to reach agreements.

The problems of Israeli football are so great, that it seems that Shabbat is going to be the least of the designated minister's problems.

The Minister of Sports who will take office will face some difficult challenges.

Let's start in the world of Israeli sports: the leading sport in Israel, soccer, is going through the most violent period it has ever known.

Fans against police, police against fans and a feeling of disgust among many fans, who exclude themselves and their families from the stadiums.

coup d'état

Violence may be a scourge of the state, but football, naturally, also drains the fringes of Israeli society, and as such - becomes fertile ground for violence.

The various media threaten that in a moment we will have the first murdered on the football fields, and even though it is about internal security matters - the new sports minister will have to be the mouthpiece of the football fans, most of whom become victims for no injustice.

Another task that the minister of sports will face is increasing the number of girls and women involved in sports in Israel.

With low female representation in the current Knesset, it seems that there is no one to protect the interests of children throughout Israel.

A responsible sports minister will know how to produce legislation, and direct budgets to affirmative action that will help bring ultra-Orthodox women, Bedouin women, and girls and boys from low socio-economic backgrounds into the sports circle.

This is a national mission and an investment for the future.

Being a cultural institution in Israel, certainly if it is not mainstream culture, is a daily struggle.

The proliferation of cultural institutions in all strata of the population, and the encouragement of the Israeli public to consume their wares, is an essential thing in the era in which we live.

This is exactly the area where the minister should try to bring more and more budgets to his office, in order to fight for the local culture that is partly dying.

Equal distribution in culture

Even though the minister comes with a certain political label, they have to remember that they must also distribute the money and budgets to institutions that are likely to criticize the administration, or that the Likud center and the members of Otzma Yehudit will not like.

This is exactly the role of culture - to challenge the discourse in society.

Israeli culture does not know how to cherish veteran artists.

Most of them reach retirement when they are penniless, do not receive the respect they deserve in the media, and no one cares to commemorate and tell future generations how great their contribution to society was.

This is part of the role of the Ministry of Culture - to take care of the greats of the past, to create a legacy in a country that is still building itself culturally.

I will return again to the topic with which I started.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports is not disrespectful.

He doesn't have to be a springboard for a better position.

It has no less prestige than other offices.
