Munich - As the start of the series for the "German Cross-Cup", the "Olympia-Alm-Crosslauf" was well attended.

Among the approximately 500 runners from 17 nations were Hanna Klein (LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen), the reigning German champion over 1500 meters, and Alina Reh (SSC Berlin), the German 5000 meter title winner.

For the men, World Cup participant Maximilian Thorwirth (SFD Düsseldorf-Süd), fourth in the DM this year over 5000 meters, was one of the favourites.

In the elite field, however, a runner from TSV Penzberg also made an impact: Luk Jäger.

According to TSV coach Markus Brennauer, the 20-year-old showed "a very good performance" and ended up in third place.

Jäger ran the 6,600-meter-long course with start and finish near the "Olympia-Alm" in 21:45 minutes.

Only Thorwirth (20:59) and Thorben Dietz (21:36) from SSV Ulm were faster.

Jäger took first place in the U23 class.

In doing so, he laid the foundation for a possible overall victory in the "German Cross-Cup".

The series consists of a total of five well-known cross-country races (including the DM in Löningen), has been relaunched this year and focuses primarily on the U20 and U23.

The next stop next Sunday, November 12th, is the “Sparkassen-Cross” in Pforzheim.

In the men's elite race in Munich, Thorwirth and Dietz pulled away from the rest of the field right at the start.

Thorwirth broke away from Dietz after the first of six laps.

Jäger formed a chasing group together with Hiob Gebisso and Johann Ioannou-Nikolaides (both LG Stadtwerke München).

In the finish, Jäger and Gebisso fought for third place.

Both were scored at the same time.

However, since Jäger was a touch faster, he ended up third in the result list, while his competitor from Augsburg finished fourth.

In the women's elite race, the top favorites set the tone.

Klein (22:14) took first place ahead of Reh (22:36).

According to the BLV website, the eventual winner used “the turmoil at the start to run out a small gap to deer”.

After that, the distance could no longer be closed.

Third was Carolin Kirtzel (23:44) from SV Werder Bremen;

this year she celebrated overall victory (1:14:40) on the half marathon course at the "Munich Marathon".

In the races over 3300 meters, Paulina Kisselbach (born 1993) took a respectable sixth place among a total of 14 women.

The TSV Penzberg athlete crossed the finish line in 15:04 minutes.

It won - with a clear lead over the next athletes - Julia Hoff (12:51) from the LG Stadtwerke Munich.

The U20 athletes also had to complete three laps on the bumpy course.

Among the young women, Julia Rath from Penzberg, wearing a LAC Quelle Fürth jersey, fought an exciting duel with Linda Meier (LAC Passau).

Rath mostly took care of the pace, Meier ran either just behind or next to her.

In the end, Meier, who prefers longer running distances than Rath, pulled away a little - "no big surprise," says the BLV website.

The woman from Passau (12:17 minutes) also won ahead of Rath (12:24).

Third place went to Frenchman Avril André (12:56), who started for LG Stadtwerke München.
