Converted forest sports park as a driving force for the Ebersberg athletics location

2023-05-17T06:08:22.484Z

Highlights: LG 90 Ebersberg-Grafing opened their new athletics jewel box in the Waldsportpark. The 400-meter tartan track shone in a freshly renovated red. The new jumping and pole vault facilities, as well as the new throwing facility, immediately invited the 123 registered athletes to new best performances. The only regrettable thing was the heavy rain shower, which ended the men's pole vault competition prematurely in the hot phase at 4.40 m. There was the name of a local hero in the top places in the junior category: Molnar Laszloar.

Athletics elite are impressed and in shape at the opening of the stadium in the Waldsportpark.

Ebersberg – First the pandemic, then the stadium renovation. Behind the training and competition community of the athletics departments from Ebersberg and Grafing, LG 90 for short, there are difficult years, especially in the area of junior training and promotion. For department head Kai Cardinal, it was a real blessing last Sunday to release the long-awaited opening competition in the converted Waldstadion.

"That was really breathtaking," said the LG90 official, who enjoyed the brand-new competition backdrop in the Waldsportpark as well as the high-class field of participants who had accepted the invitation to the stadium opening. "We wrote to the national and squad coaches in advance to see if they would be willing to come with their athletes. Therefore, a big thank you to the city of Ebersberg for being so well on schedule with the extensive renovations."

The 400-meter tartan track shone in a freshly renovated red and the completely newly built jumping and pole vault facilities, as well as the new throwing facility, immediately invited the 123 registered athletes to new best performances. "In every discipline we had such a great depth of performance that it even produced some qualifying times for German Championships," Kai Cardinal enthused, for example, about having experienced the international discus class of Christian Zimmermann live in Ebersberg. The Landsham squad athlete threw his two-kilogram sports equipment out of the ring to a new season best of 55.39 meters - "madness!".

Brand new facilities for shot, javelin, discus and pole vault

According to Cardinal, the many stadium visitors and the local political celebrities present were no less impressed by some remarkable performances of the day. You don't see a javelin throw at almost 70 meters (Jakob Eberler, LG Landkreis Roth) every day. The U20 shot putter (6 kg) Georg Harpf (LG Stadtwerke München) even achieved the feat of possibly initiating a small replica phase on the 18-metre-long standard facility. Because with his winning distance of 18.91 m, he unceremoniously threw over the limit. "That was very impressive. Afterwards, I spoke to the board of directors of TSV Ebersberg, Martin Schedo, about the fact that we would have to fill up the facility by one or two meters backwards if athletes at international level are here more often in the future," Kai Cardinal revealed.

For the LG 90 Ebersberg-Grafing, there are also natural limits in their new athletics jewel box - for example, with only four instead of the six prescribed lanes on the 400-meter course, neither national nor state championships for all-around athletes can be organized. But Kai Cardinal believes that major competitions for national and international specialists, for example in the throwing disciplines, will be possible more often in the future under the modernized conditions. "It's always an advertisement for the club and the facility and can also be a driving force for the youth department. After all, such athletes only come if the facility is any good."

As the stadium opening has now shown, this is clearly the case. Secluded, comparatively extremely windless due to the forest border and now also equipped in terms of equipment and furnishings with competition office, catering, material and over 200 square meters of multi-purpose room at the highest level. "Now we have everything we need to be able to do sensible athletics," he said, receiving nothing but high praise for the facility and organization from the selection coaches, visitors and athletes, reported the head of the LG 90 department.

The only regrettable thing was the heavy rain shower, which ended the men's pole vault competition prematurely in the hot phase at 4.40 m. Kai Cardinal expressed a small wish for the future when he spoke about the results report in real time on site. "I would like to see the forest sports park completely illuminated with Wi-Fi in order to technically network the individual stations with each other."

The necessary timing systems and video walls could then be rented from the regional association BLV – as was the case with the stadium opening. There, the name of a local hero appeared twice in the top places in the junior category: LG90 talent Laszlo Molnar was second in the discus in the M14 (33.50 m) and won in the shot put (13.73 m).
