Led by their star Femke Bol, the Dutch won gold on Sunday in Budapest on the 4x400m relay.

The women's 4x400m relay from the Netherlands, led by its star Femke Bol who signed a great return, won the gold medal at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Sunday.

Bol, who fell heavily in the final of the mixed 4x400m relay on the first day of the Worlds, gave his country the title with a superb final lap, allowing his team to win in 3 min 20 sec 72, ahead of Jamaica (3:20.88) and the British (3:21.04).

The Dutchwoman, crowned world champion in the 400m hurdles on Thursday, took the baton in third position and caught up with her competitors at the cost of an impressive final straight, to steal the first place from the Jamaicans just before the finish line, for the last event of these World Championships.

Bol, 23, could have won an extra gold medal at these Worlds had she not fallen a few metres from the line while fighting for victory in the mixed 4x400m.

The United States, titled in 2022 at home in Eugene (Oregon), had been disqualified in the playoffs Saturday for a passing of the baton out of zone.
