The early death of Lior Liubin, the Israeli basketball coach, at the age of only 46, is making waves in Europe as well.
Liubin collaborated with Oded Ketch in the Greek Panathinaikos as an assistant coach in 2021, and also as a player had short stints in Greece and Bulgaria.
Real Madrid star Mario Zonia paid tribute to Lior Liubin: "Rest in peace my friend, Lior. You hugged me from day one. Your enthusiasm, positivity and knowledge of basketball pushed and inspired the whole team to win during a very difficult time. My condolences to Oded and the family."
The Greek Panathinaikos in its ranks served as an assistant coach in the 2021 season and worked alongside Oded Ketch paid tribute to him: "Panathinaikos expresses its sorrow for the loss of Lior Lahovin, who was the assistant coach of our team in the 2020-2021 season. Our sincere condolences to his family," the club's official statement reads.

The Serbian "Telegraph" wrote: "The world of basketball has not yet recovered after the death of Dian Miljevic, who left the world at the age of 47, and has already suffered a new blow. The former Israeli basketball player and coach Lior Liubin lost his life fighting the cancer war and died at the age of 46. Lior was appreciated Rabbi in Israel, and he was also a great friend of Oded Ketch, the current coach of Maccabi, who visited him in the last few days."
