In its first activities this evening, the Association “Sincerely Syria” honored the archaeologist martyr Khaled Al-Assad who dedicated his life to preserving the ruins of Palmyra and was executed by the terrorist organization Daesh on August 18, 2015 in its National Museum Square.

The honoring ceremony, titled “Khaled Al-Asaad, the Martyr of Culture and Science” at the Arab Center for Radio and Television Training in Damascus, included a screening of the martyr, which included testimonies of a number of archaeologists around the world, denouncing his heinous murder against humanity and valued his achievements and dedication to preserving the ruins of Palmyra and its civilization for thousands of years. It also included a lecture by his son Mohammed al-Asaad.

"The martyr Al-Asaad is one of the symbols of the Syrian civilization and culture targeted by the dark terrorists and many archaeological sites," Taleb Qazi Amin, chairman of the association, told SANA.

Qazi Amin added that honoring Al-Asaad is a tribute to the 14 martyrs who died in defense of antiquities and museums in Syria and to all the martyrs of the homeland who made precious and precious to protect it.

Amin pointed out that the association, when launched in 2011, set among its goals lighting the Syrian civilization and present it to the whole world through communication with intellectuals and media abroad and the establishment of exhibitions and activities that serve this goal and after eight years of war added to its goals to define the world what the terrorists and obscurants committed against this civilization.

In a similar statement, Al-Asaad expressed his thanks to all those who took the initiative to honor the martyrs in general and his father in particular, indicating that they have a great role in the healing and sympathy of the family's wounds, stressing that his father stuck to his love to destroy Palmyra and Queen Zenobia and his endeavor to show the importance of archaeological discoveries and preserve it a global cultural disaster until the last moments. His life.

The ceremony was attended by Assistant Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Yasser Al-Ahmad and a number of media professionals, artists, writers, intellectuals and representatives of NGOs.

The researcher martyr Khaled Al-Assad was born in the city of Palmyra in 1934.He holds a BA in History and a Diploma of Education from Damascus University.He worked in 1962 as head of studies and excavations in the Directorate of Antiquities in Damascus, then at Al Azm Palace until the end of 1963. By decree in September 2015, he was awarded the Syrian Order of Merit for his outstanding achievements in archeology.

The association “Sincerely Syria”, which was licensed in 2011, is a non-profit organization aiming to introduce the Syrian civilization and the human face of the Syrian people and their role in world history.
