A commissioner of the municipality of Florence paid, in a personal capacity, the fine to a former worker of the Gkn of Campi who had written to the mayor Dario Nardella and the commander of the municipal police explaining his moment of difficulty and asking that that fine of 74, 06 euros was 'frozen' until he had the material possibility of paying it or it was switched into hours or days of socially useful work.
The commissioner thus expressed her closeness to the workers of the former Gkn by paying the fine herself.
The worker, without a job, father of a family, explained in the letter his moment of difficulty: "I don't have the liquidity to pay the fine", without, however, backing down from his debt towards the Municipality.
The factory in which he worked was in fact closed on 9 July 2021 and since then a long dispute has arisen.
The blue suits of the former Gkn benefited from social safety nets until December 2023, while at the beginning of the year they are without financial income despite not being fired.
The story began when the man, last January 6, in a moment of distraction, took a preferential lane in the Piazza Puccini area of Florence and, after a few days, he received the report.
The commissioner, responsible for explaining to the worker that the law does not provide for the possibility of freezing or converting an administrative fine into working hours, contacted the worker to inform him that she had paid the fine "as a demonstration of proximity to the cause" because the the affair of the former Gkn "cannot fail to include the participation of all of Florence and all the citizens".
The worker expressed his gratitude by pledging to repay up to the last cent "the loan" made "from friend to friend".
