This announcement will have to wait again. The Elysee has announced that the name of the representative of France to the European Commission would not be announced this Tuesday, August 27.
No later date is indicated to date. During the closing conference of the G7 summit in Biarritz, Emmanuel Macron said he would announce the name of the future commissioner this morning, after having received the authorization of the future president of the commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Portfolio trade or climate?
The deadline of 26 August had theoretically been set for each country to nominate its representative on the Commission. But Emmanuel Macron had indicated that he had obtained a "respite". The French authorities gave no indication of the chosen personality, who could be a woman, Ursula von der Leyen wanting a Joint Commission.
As is the practice, Ursula von der Leyen is free to accept or reject the names submitted to her by the Twenty-Seven and to award the successful candidates a portfolio in the team that will take office on 1 November.
Paris would like to obtain a file reflecting one of its political priorities, such as trade or climate, declared last month from a French source.
