Sergei Glezniyak, a member of the Russian State Duma's international affairs committee, said that calls by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to meet international and Russian obligations were "excessive and opportunistic."

"These invitations show both sides are pursuing their own goals," Jeleznyak told Sputnik. "Johnson is trying to show his attempts to put pressure on Russia and stand again with the United States. As for Erdogan, he is trying to rally the West."

He stressed that "the focus must be on the negotiation process in Syria and to act in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations and the resolutions adopted in Astana and Sochi. It reaffirms the lack of interest of key players in the West in accelerating peace processes in the region. ”

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov reiterated that responsibility for the tense situation in Idlib rests with the Turkish side according to the Sochi agreements.Piskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is concerned about the increasing intensity of terrorist attacks launched from Idlib, which can not be ended without eliminating terrorists.
