Deputy Jean Paul Briere, of the Parliamentary Front for Transparency and Democracy, spoke about the end of the mandate of the International Commission Against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG). Briere noted that important laws against organized crime were passed under the CICIG. However, the deputy said he did not understand why the CICIG was finalized when it achieved significant progress and convictions. According to Briere it would take 10, 15 or 20 more years of CICIG. The CICIG in 12 years accused 1,500 people, prosecuting 660 and secured 400 sentences. Among the relevant cases was the so-called "The Line" that involved former President Otto Pérez Molina and Vice President Roxana Baldetti. Three commissioners directed the CICIG: Carlos Castresana, Francisco Dall´Anese Ruiz and Iván Velásquez.
