The Director of Agriculture Sweida engineer Ayham Hamed told SANA Economic that the initial estimates for the production of grape fruits for the current season amounted to about 44555 tons, while production last season amounted to more than 56 thousand tons, due to the usual reasons related to the variation of production from year to year.
Suwayda grapes are distinguished according to the director of agriculture with a distinctive flavor and highly sweet manufacturing varieties due to environmental conditions and the nature of the soil indicating that the multiplicity of climatic conditions planted by the vine tree in the province reflected on the fruit date, which starts with the end of July and continues until the end of September, indicating the diversity of grapes Most of the production is concentrated in the regions of the mountain back, Kafr, Miamas, Sahwa Balata, Arman, Qanat and Shahba.
The head of the agricultural chamber in Sweida Hatem Abu Ras and the presence of many local industries in the province of Sweida, depending on grapes, most notably the manufacture of molasses and raisins inherited from the ancestors for hundreds of years are marketed in the markets of the province and abroad and exported to some neighboring countries such as Lebanon.
Engineer Fadi Choucair, Director General of the Syrian Company for Grape Manufacturing, said that the company receives annually quantities of grape juice supplied from farmers, which constitutes a large proportion of the province's production, where the quantities received in the last season about 5800 tons.
The farmers of the vine tree in Sweida face some difficulties, most notably according to agricultural expert Nayef Al-Saneeh, the lack of a market for the discharge of table grapes, which reflects negatively on its price compared to its production costs.
