(CNN) - Identical triplets were imprisoned for firearms crimes, after police were able to establish that the three brothers were involved in crimes.

Ricky and Ralston Gabriel, 28, both semi-professional soccer players, were jailed for 14 years by a court in London on Friday after being convicted of conspiracy to own a firearm with the intention of endangering life.

The third triplet, Reiss, was convicted of those and three other crimes and sent to jail for 18 years.

The North London brothers were the last eight men charged in connection with the capture of three weapons: an Uzi machine gun, an automatic loading gun and a loaded revolver and armed police ammunition in April 2017.

After four men were convicted in the case last year, police conducted more tests with the gun and discovered DNA linked to the triplets, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Since the DNA could not be attributed to only one of the siblings, surveillance tests and mobile phones were needed to demonstrate the participation of the three, the police department added.

Scotland Yard's temporary detective chief inspector, Driss Hayoukane, said: "The trio tried to exploit their DNA and identical appearance to try to avoid the consequences of their actions, but the arduous work of the investigation team avoided their attempts."

In the judgment of the triplets, Judge John Hillen told them: "You three were involved in an agreement to obtain and deliver the weapons to an extremely dangerous criminal, Aron Thomas, for your use," the PA Media news agency reported.

Aron Thomas received a life sentence in the same case last year for possession of a firearm with the intention of endangering life.

"These types of weapons would have been used against a person or persons, and a police intervention is the only reason that no serious damage occurred," Hillen reported.
